Née au Portugal d’un père portugais et d’une mère française, Cécile Filipe quitte Lisbonne à l’âge de neuf ans lorsque sa famille s’installe en France. Cet arrachement fondateur marque durablement son parcours. Très tôt, le dessin et la peinture deviennent un langage, un moyen de traverser cette rupture — et depuis, la mémoire sensible de l’enfance lisboète, la lumière du fleuve, les ciels, le vent, les ruelles, demeure une présence persistante dans son œuvre.
Formée à l’architecture intérieure à l’École Camondo, elle dirige pendant plus de vingt ans un bureau de design, tout en poursuivant une pratique artistique parallèle. Cette double formation irrigue son travail, où coexistent rigueur structurelle et liberté du geste.

Born in Portugal to a Portuguese father and a French mother, Cécile Filipe left Lisbon at the age of nine when her family moved to France. This foundational uprooting left a lasting mark on her path. Drawing and painting became a language early on a way to navigate that rupture. The sensory memory of her Lisbon childhood, the light on the river, the skies, the wind, the narrow streets, remains a persistent presence in her work.
Trained in interior architecture at the École Camondo in Paris, she led a design office for over twenty years while maintaining a parallel artistic practice. This dual background shapes her work, where structural rigor and gestural freedom coexist.
“Architecture taught me balance. Nature disrupted its order. My painting is born from this tension, nourished by what flows through me to emerge into the light.”
DÉMARCHE
Depuis 2020, son travail se développe en séries, structurées par des phases chromatiques et une approche résolument instinctive. Chaque œuvre naît sans croquis ni intention préalable, construite au fil de la matière, acrylique sur toile, collages de washi papers et d’affiches anciennes, encres, aquarelle, avec des outils non conventionnels, grattoirs, éponges, mains, qui participent pleinement au langage pictural.
Nourri par une observation sensible de la nature, son travail évoque des paysages intérieurs autant qu’il fait écho aux rythmes du vivant. Par la superposition des textures, les transparences et la tension entre ombre et lumière, elle construit des espaces à la fois atmosphériques et introspectifs.
Traversée par une forme de saudade, son œuvre explore un état suspendu entre mémoire et présent. L’équilibre entre gestes intuitifs et compositions rigoureuses affirme une écriture singulière, en résonance avec une abstraction à la fois émotionnelle et conceptuelle.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Since 2020, her work has developed in series, structured by chromatic phases and a resolutely instinctive approach. Each piece is born without sketches or prior intention, built through the material itself, acrylic on canvas, collages of washi papers and vintage posters, inks and watercolor using unconventional tools: scrapers, sponges, hands, all fully part of the pictorial language.
Rooted in a sensitive observation of nature, her work evokes inner landscapes as much as it echoes the rhythms of the living world. Through layered textures, transparencies and the tension between shadow and light, she constructs spaces that are both atmospheric and introspective. Permeated by a form of saudade, her work explores a suspended state between memory and present. The balance between intuitive gestures and rigorous, almost architectural compositions affirms a singular voice in resonance with an abstraction that is at once emotional and conceptual.
